Project Goal (The Client's Challenge)
The client wanted to transform their previously neutral dining room (see Before photo) into an intimate, sophisticated space that reflected their passion for bold design and coastal elements. The new scheme needed a dramatic focal point to accentuate their beautiful antique wooden dining set and brass light fixtures and bold art work.
1. The Colour Strategy: Why Admiral Blue?
We selected Benjamin Moore Admiral Blue (2065-10) to be the main anchor of the room. This colour is far more sophisticated than a standard navy:
- Evokes the Deep Sea: Admiral Blue is an "almost-black" shade of inky blue with subtle velvety purple and black undertones. This prevents it from feeling cold or stark, creating a feeling of deep water and timeless classic charm.
- Draws Focus: As a highly saturated, powerful accent, it instantly recedes the wall and creates a dramatic focal point, making the client's antique wood furniture and gold artwork absolutely glow with contrast.
- Balance with October Mist: We balanced this intensity with October Mist (1495), a gently shaded sage green. This acts as a modern, organic neutral, providing a soft contrast that complements the coastal theme (reminiscent of seafoam) and keeps the room feeling sophisticated, not overwhelming.
2. The Finish Strategy: Why Regal Matte?
The finish choice was just as critical as the color. To achieve a truly luxurious, high-end effect, we used Benjamin Moore Regal Matte on the walls.
- Enhances Pigment: The Matte finish minimizes light reflection. This allows the complex pigments of Admiral Blue to be seen in their truest form, giving the wall a velvety, custom-look texture that exudes luxury.
- Hides Imperfections: Matte finishes are excellent for camouflaging minor surface flaws, ensuring a flawless, professional result even on older wall surfaces.
- Durability: Despite the low sheen, Regal Matte still provides a highly durable, scrubbable surface, perfect for a busy area like a dining room.
